Before this course starts I've always had a problem with my use of vocabulary and punctuation I remember in high school the most common comment that my teachers had on my papers was “work in your punctuation” I didn't know what did that mean because English is not my first language; therefore, I wasn't introduced to the aspect of punctuation uses before. However, this semester I felt like it was my first time learning about grammar and punctuation due to the grammar presentation that our group did about “commas” as I mentioned before. From this presentation I learned how to distinguish between a comma splice and a complex sentence. Also, I’m more comfortable with using commas with conjunction, and transition words since before I did not know if we had to place it before, or after a conjunction word. In addition to our presentation I learned a lot from the other group’s presentations about punctuation, semi-colons and colons, sentences fragments and more. Also, from my own research now I’m able to differentiate between a dependent and independent clause. Beside all of that I learned more about the power of words due to all of the reading that we did that expanded my vocabulary usage. Also this semester I was able to write a narrative essay from my first point of view perspective something I ‘v never done before in high school. Also, that was my first essay that I was confidence enough with my grammar and punctuation usage.
